All of them starred at Jimmy. Jimmy stepped out of his apartment into the courtyard. The simulated night sky showed a field of stars and a gibbous moon. Behind Jimmy a woman lay in the entry way in a pool of blood.
Jimmy raised his bloody knife into the air. “Korrag!”
“Korrag!” The children echoed.
Jimmy walked toward the living block’s exit. The rest of the children fell in step behind him.

Rimms and his team were already dead. They just had to hold Korrag long enough for Roberts to trigger the failsafe.
A searing pain between Roberts’ eyes blinded him, and he nearly fell as he reached the door to Control. As he stumbled, he cried out in horror: “Oh, God! Jimmy!”

“Tau Prime Epsilon,” Roberts interjected.
“Yessir!”
Warning klaxons began sounding throughout the station.

Dark creatures swarmed out of a new crater on Io. The moon’s surface was covered, undulating like ripples on an oily pond.
“What…” Roberts croaked. Then he punched the comm and barked, “Fergus? What assets have we got–”
A burst of static interrupted him—but that wasn’t why Roberts stopped.
On the black-and-white screen in front of him, even through the distortion of Jupiter’s intensely powerful EMF, he plainly saw a gelatinous, tentacled nightmare staring back at him with his father’s face.

If you are wondering why I am spewing so much venom about this film in particular it is because I grew up with Borroughs’ stories and the John Carter stories were among my very favorites. And, of course, The Asylum maybe the worst film company in existence today. For the love off all that is good and right, Tars Tarkas a Thark (green martians) should be a giant with four arms not a short guy in bad mask. And don’t get me started about Antonio Sabata Jr playing John Carter, a Civil War era Virginian, or Tracy Lords playing Deja Thoris, the Princess of Mars.

The meteorite crashed into the surface of the Jovian moon Io. Jeff marveled at the luck of a tiny object flying through space and smashing into a larger, but still small object. From his lab on Lightning station, Jeff sent a probe down to the volcanic surface to scan the meteor. The first data came back revealed high amounts of alloys, suggesting non-natural composition. When the video feed went live to show creatures crawling out of the wreckage, Jeff decided perhaps random chance had less to do with this event than he had thought. Then tentacles ripped the probe asunder.

The pain in my head was replaced by a noise that blended with the cricket song and somewhere a dog was barking its mad yelps at a car. Through it all I realized that I couldn’t move. Resigning myself, I simply lay there in wonder.

“How do I get in there?” I say.

“I’m afraid I’m not familiar with that particular human.”
So I eat the crumpled up photo of my family, and I finally will myself to make the wrong choice.
The clowns giggle at my suffering, and I giggle along with them.

For all of you following Nick’s progress on CaringBridge, you know about the paralysis he has in both legs. If you haven’t been checking CaringBridge lately, last Monday (1/4) Nick started having tingling in both his legs. By Thursday he could not move either leg. Right now he and Jill are at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. We have enough benefit money for them to stay until Saturday, but it looks like Nick will be admitted this weekend for either surgery or radiation treatments to remove/shrink the tumors pressing on his spinal cord causing the paralysis.I have emptied our 401K, depleted our personal saving account, cleaned out the kids college fund, sold the family car, and have no where else to turn. If you can make a donation, it will help us more than you can imagine.

I am still planning to do attend Horrorfest 4 and give you the blow by blow account of my experience (as well as a written review of the event and films) and I am planning to attend and record stuff at a couple of cons (including CONvergence 2010.) So stay subscribe to the feeds for some extra snarky content.
So for those who are wondering here are my major goals for 2010 (pronounced twenty ten) in list form:
- Successfully complete The Yard Gnome Fiction Writer’s Workshop
- Write, produce, and publish at least one Adventures of The Snarky Avenger audio drama serial
- Write and publish a webcomic for at least 6 months (this is dependent on the artist as well)
- Spend more time with my wife
- Get more physically fit
- Have more fun! (This last one is a little hard to measure but that’s okay and so far a few opportunities have presented themselves.)
So that’s the plan more or less folks. I am keeping the list small and the goals challenging and fun. To all of you setting goals or who have big plans for this year I wish you all the luck in the universe and I pray that you will succeed beyond your wildest dream. I know I plan too.

“It’s to late Snarky Avenger. You can’t save Christmas this time. In mere moments Santa will be a pile of smoldering ashes.” The Easter Bunny said and began to laugh manically.
The Snarky Avenger drew one of his two chrome plated .45 automatics, aimed, and fired a single round in one fluid motion.
A small hole appeared in the Easter Bunny’s forehead. He paused for a moment and then fell backward.
The Snarky Avenger holstered his pistol. “No one messes with Christmas.” He leaped forward ripping open the steel hatch. “Don’t worry Santa, I’ll have you out of there momentarily.”

Brad giggled gleefully when he got his first Gene Splicing play set for Christmas. He got bored fast with only the few simple cells that were included. He used the Spy Gear set from last year and broke into the local zoo science lab and swiped some random samples. Unable to read the Latin animal names and lacking the thought to look them up on-line, he simply started mixing them. Most died, but a matched pair survived, and escaped, and bred. The military quashed the ‘Snakebird Outbreak’. Tracking the origins, they discovered victim zero: Brad, eyeless in the basement, crying.
