I really liked Laurence's piece. Its terribly tongue-in-cheek and funny. What a wicked sense of humour Lair has...that is for sure.

And where did you say WHICH world I'd be offering up a pathway to World Peace for?

heres my thoughts on round 5.
i'll start with will. funny as always. good use of music. i really liked this one and i agree 100% with the animal house comment clinton (i think it was clinton) made. made me laugh out loud. wills delivery is always very natural and that just makes it easier to get into the piece and laugh. will is probably wearing strippr glitter right now. laurence's stuff i've been a big fan of in the past. this round flew over my head a little bit. i felt it was too outside the box so to speak. that said it was really well acted and laurence definitely always does a great job with the voice acting stuff. this entry itself just didnt work for me. but i enjoyed the perforamce. phils was good this round. another lol one. good sounds and music (funny funny). also i found the time of everything to be really good. i don't know if there is something specific you podcasters call the timing of music and sound effects but all three competitors seem to have a good grasp on this. the thing i really like about phil as a contestant is he has done something very different each round. that pushed him over the edge for me this round!! great job to everyone tho. u all make me wish i was more creative. |

I have an admission to make, I heard Lair's entry prior to submission. In fact I suggested the final title (along with a bunch of others.).
That said, I still like Lair's entry the best, and no that is not because I'm Lair's friend. Lair addresses a fundamental fact of life, not just human life, but ALL life, from the ameoba all the way up to Homo Sapiens. Every living thing competes with every other for food, shelter and mates (at least for those who partake in sexual reproduction). By stepping outside the conventional worldview, Lair attempts to show the utter bankruptcy of the concept. As long as living things exist there will be conflict. As long as there is conflict there can be no peace. Lair did not violate the theme, he defined it in terms that the other two did not. |

By Jove, he's figured it out! Although, to tell the truth, the title was right there in front of me, embracing my morning coffee... ![]() Yup... a peace symbol overlaid by a B-52. As for the muse that inspired the character styles, SNL Season One has been released on DVD. Look for the "Land Of Gorch." Even if the residents of Stravax don't win votes, they certainly have inspired me into working up a new podcast series as well as a series of Mel Brooks 2,000 Year Old Man-style improv interviews with Andrew as the Carl Reiner role. Thanks for providing the seed for this diabolical creation all, but let's just see how this one turns out... -------------------- |

This was definitely an interesting round to put together. I was scratching my head at first, but ended up having a good time with it.

Talk about 'making yourself at home'. Geez. Next time I have dolphins come in to do any work, they're staying at a hotel. -------------------- |

It is my opinion all three contestants failed to adhere to the topic and all three succeeded wildly in capturing the ironic essence of world peace. If we are to believe the choice of topics is a sever and binding element of the game then none of the stories addressed the call to constructively outline practical means to bring about world peace. If we are to believe the choice of the topics is a board and inclusive vehicle to foster creativity, be they black, be they white, be they whatever, then the contestants rose to the call and through humor gave us the inexplicable answer to why there is a lack of world peace: power corrupts, absolute power makes you wealthy.
Where this rounds rules failed was not establishing weither the stories where to be dramatic or comical. When the challenge was issued I felt it was rather tongue in cheek with its Miss American under pinning. There was an encouragement to not take the topic seriously which is just what you got. I was surprise that the folk running the contest were surprised. I believe this level of mixed messages produced a predictable out come. To the stories themselves: Phil Rossi’s veiled GWB spot on dude. The sound in the background timed to perfection. In the true style of a short story you did not write in any element that did not fail to have a big pay off. The Dolphins beginning middle and end. The pace was calm, The story line linear and smooth. There was a lot of breathing space in the work. But above all everything this main character’s believes had the emotional depth of a Monterey tide pool. And I agree if we just shot everyone who pulled a radical lane change I do believe we would be looking at peace in our generation. Major laughts Laurence Simon’s story was totally dense, layers on layers. The frogs pay off, good. The monks chanting very funny. Good introduction of characters. Good delineation of beginning middle and end. Ego driven title hunger ruler. Litany of destroyed animal species. And doomsday missiles. One two three…. In and out. It was fast, no time to catch your breath., but I love his frigate train humor, stay ahead on the track or get run over on the tracks. It played like a Rocky and Bulliwinkle cartoon, which to say classic funny. Where Phi’s leader saw the earth as a great place to party to indulge in short term gratification, Laurence’s leader sees the earth as so much real estate to rip off and blunder. Got to get your hands on world piece. Lots of laughs Will Ross’s story had the slowest ramp up for me. The mic_ing was a little too deep for my liking. Planyer plan so Busheques and worth a giggle or two. The Kim bit didn’t have that big a pay off. The sexual under pinning was well worked. Who wouldn’t love scantily clad gyrating women? The biggest joke was republican hadn’t seen a good enough party paired with Ralph Nader bras, too bad it came so late in the story. Funniest Ross machine gun fire bit was the crayons, but also way too later in the story. Too much air between jokes. Will’s style was not present here, I had to wait for the funniest instead of being buried in funniest. This last fictional leader proved more focus with his immediate gratification and given the antics of our house of representatives uses of power to curry sexual favor from subordinates it was spot on Will. Lot of giggles Three stories about stupid megamaniacal misanthropic misogynistic unconscious lets dancing around the pork trough while the doomsday clock hits 11:55 what fun. As Christiana said when all the people and life is gone true world peace. Funny? My call 1 Phil 2. Laurence 3.Will |

Hoo, boy.
Phil's piece was a nice send-up of the Bushster...well done. Will's 'cast echoed that same theme. Not bad, but between the two of 'em, I'd give the nod to Phil. But then there's Laurence Simon's piece. Laurence dug deep into the pop-culture files to resurrect the Land of Gorch. I think this one could be a stand-alone show. Frickin' hilarious...it was a real radio show. Summing up, you have three good 'casts - but I think Laurence blew the other ones away. |

There's one aspect of Phil's piece that had me wondering if I should click on his instead of doing the selfish thing and vote for mine.
It's the ending credits. We're all pulling from sources as either Public Domain or Fair Use, but Phil credited them and linked the sources on his own podcast site. That's class and solid Podcasting 101. A tip of the hat to Phil: -------------------- |
