My Content
6 Jun 2010
Collectively, my podcasts have been downloaded over a million times! Most of that comes from my torrentcast which is basically a reposting of my podcasts. I've been using Mininova's Content Distribution system and it's worked out well. I now have over a million downloads from just that alone, although that's counting both Podcast Ping and Blue Hot Gossip.

I'm not the first one to get a million CD downloads, although I am in the top 10. Admittedly, since Mininova went legit and lost most of it's patrons, it would be harder for someone just starting to reach that goal.

I discovered torrentcasting while trying to find ways to reach a broader audience. I was finding it hard to make headway on podcast forums and iTunes was practically useless for getting attention with. So if you really want to get noticed, don't just do what everyone else does but try to find new ways to reach people.

It's back. Well sort of.

And this isn't really a plug for the show because I know how tiring it is reading though everyone's plugs for shows you're just not interested in. Of course you will find The Blue Hot Gossip Comedy Show interesting, but that's irrelevant. After all, it's real comedy, not some humor podcast that calls itself comedy but is really just a couple of guys laughing at the stupid situations they get themselves into. Of course it does have stupid guys getting themselves into situations, but that's beside the point. As with the funny music.

For those of you who want to check it out, the podcast can be found at http://bluehotgossip.blogspot.com .

The activity on this board is mostly dead. It's hidden by the Podcasting News and the "Slam and Scram" postings, which make the board appear more active, but I'm not seeing any real participation.

I've noticed that most of the newbies don't appear to be sicking around, or if they are they're not really participating much. What little I'm seeing is from people doing "Slam and Scram" (or Hit and Run) postings, that is they post literally a few words in topics that have been dead for years just so they can plug their shows. Then they make a post for their show and disappear from the boards. A few might even post new episodes but that's all.

Note to newbies: this will not work in helping to boost your show.

If nobody sticks around then there's nobody to read the posts. And people need to warm up to a podcaster before they're going to take an interest in the show. Stick around, participate, and start new topics. It's community that helps build a podcast. How are you going to connect with other podcasters to run your promos or talk about your shows if you don't?

Is there enough people still around to even bother considering the idea? There wasn't one last year, and about the only activity I've noticed lately are people popping in to plug their shows (and make enough posts to do so) then disappear again.

I will be busy doing a Christmas calendar this year so I won't have a lot of time for it, but I could work on it, provided there's enough interest to even bother.

This is the last one that was done:

This was the second one, the one before "A Pickle For Christmas."

This is the first one:

The numbers on Internet Archive don't reflect the accurate totals since the files were uploaded only a couple years ago, but the first one has received a lot of attention.

And you're free to use them in your own podcast. You can link directly to the Internet Archive file.
